Willie Nelson walks off stage, angers concert goers

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Willie Nelson angered concert goers Saturday night when he appeared on stage for only a few moments before leaving.

The 85-year-old Nelson was the headline act of the Outlaw Music Festival at the PNC Music Pavilion Saturday.

The country music legend didn't even play one note before exiting the stage. A press release from LiveNation stated that illness was the reason Nelson did not perform.

Concert goers are asked to hold onto their tickets for the re-scheduled date. A new date for the concert has not yet been announced.

In a Youtube video posted by Michael Keim Nelson appears on stage, attempts to pick up his guitar, then throws his cowboy hat into the crowd and walks off.

This is not Nelson's first cancellation this year, he canceled several concerts in February due to the flu.

Nelson's 2018 Outlaw Music Festival was stopping at Charlotte's PNC Music Pavilion when he twice walked on- and offstage before fans were told that the show was being canceled. The Music Universe reports that, during his second time onstage, Nelson threw his hat out to the crowd before leaving; readers can see video of that moment above.

The Charlotte Observer says that the show's cancellation wasn't explained to fans for more than an hour after Nelson left the stage. Live Nation issued a statement on Twitter late Saturday night asking fans to "hold on to their tickets until the new date is announced."

Nelson's publicist tells the Music Universe that Nelson has a stomach bug but will make up his performance in Charlotte at a later time. He is still planning to perform on Sunday night (May 27), at a show in Washington, DC, with Sturgill Simpson.

Nelson has come under a significant amount of scrutiny regarding his health over the past year: In January, Nelson similarly abruptly ended a performance Harrah’s Resort SoCal shortly after it began due to breathing issues; he then canceled additional tour dates in order to recover from the flu. Nelson was also forced to cancel a string of tour dates in late 2016 and early 2017, due to an undisclosed illness; however, he remained healthy throughout the rest of that year, and his publicist shot down a March 2017 rumor that he was "deathly ill."

Since canceling those 2018 tour dates, Nelson has remained healthy and on the road. His Outlaw Music Festival -- featuring, among others, Nelson, Simpson, Alison Krauss and Old Crow Medicine Show -- began on Friday (May 25) in Raleigh, N.C. He released a new album, Last Man Standing, on April 27, two days before his 85th birthday.

Citing illness, Willie Nelson walks off-stage during Charlotte show

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Willie Nelson has postponed a Charlotte show after reportedly walking off the stage due to illness.

Nelson performed in Raleigh on Friday at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park at Walnut Creek during the Outlaw Music Festival, which featured a line-up of other artists including Sturgill Simpson and Alison Krauss.

Nelson was also expected to perform during the Outlaw Music Festival on Saturday in Charlotte at the PNC Music Pavilion, but reportedly walked off-stage before the music started. Live Nation immediately released a press release, stating: 3

Due to illness, Willie Nelson was unable to play tonight at the Outlaw Music Festival at PNC Music Pavilion Charlotte. Fans are asked to please hold on to their tickets until the new date is announced.

A video posted by a YouTube user showed Nelson setting down his guitar before throwing his cowboy hat to the crowd and leaving the stage.

Willie Nelson bailed on his show Saturday night in Charlotte, North Carolina ... apparently due to illness.

The 85-year-old country legend was set to perform at the Outlaw Music Festival and even readied his guitar with his red, white and blue strap ... but quickly unstrapped himself, hurled his hat into the crowd and walked off stage.

He seemed pissed, but Live Nation Carolina said Willie was under the weather and just couldn't put on a performance. Live Nation asked fans to hold on to their tickets for a new concert date. It's unclear if they've offered refunds.

Some of the concertgoers said he had walked off stage earlier in the evening but walked right back off. They say they waited an hour the second time around before someone said the concert was off.

A rep for Willie tells TMZ Willie had a stomach bug but he's now well enough that he'll perform Sunday night in Washington D.C. He also promises to do a make good for his North Carolina fans.

Atlanta Concerts this week: Chris Thile, Willie Nelson, Khalid

“The Summer of Living Dangerously” tour finds Steely Dan on its first major outing since the Sept. 27 death of band co-founder and guitarist-bassist Walter Becker. At the tour kickoff in Charlotte last weekend, Steely co-captain Donald Fagen made reference to his departed friend during the encore, while leading the band through the Dan’s ‘70s classics. The Doobie Brothers, as always, can be counted on to provide their own parade of reliable hits, such as “Black Water” and “China Grove.”

The multi-instrumentalist who cut his teeth in Nickel Creek and gained more critical acclaim with the folk-bluegrass quintet The Punch Brothers has hosted the newer version of “A Prairie Home Companion” for two years. This will be the first live Atlanta broadcast of “Live From Here” and include guests Father John Misty, Neko Case, comic Rory Albanese and Madison Cunningham.

It will be a night of gritty and glass-like vocals when these contrasting singers take the stage. Nelson unveiled a new album, “Last Man Standing,” on April 27. Krauss, who played Chastain last fall with David Gray, released her most recent solo album, “Windy City,” last year.
